Mary K. Morrell, MD
Trauma and Fracture Specialist
Dr. Morrell is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in orthopaedic traumatology and specializes in fracture management. She has a large general orthopaedic practice with special interests in pediatrics, hand and wrist conditions, arthritis pain and women’s health issues. Dr. Morrell has over 10 years of experience and joined Midwest Sports Medicine in 1996.
Fellowship Trained
As a traumatologist, Dr. Morrell has extensive training in fracture care. She is adept at closed fracture management and skilled in the use of metal hardware and implants when surgical intervention is required. These treatments provide for limb stability, pain relief and a more rapid return to function.
Dr. Morrell performs a significant number of arthroscopic procedures each year. She also enjoys the meticulous dissection necessary for hand and wrist surgeries such as ganglion cyst excisions, carpal tunnel releases and fracture care of the hand and wrist.
Expert in Women's Health Issues
As one of a small number of female orthopedists in the country, Dr. Morrell has an understanding of the orthopaedic implications of women’s health issues in osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and female-athlete conditions. For arthritis pain, she employs all types of joint preservation treatment and uses minimally invasive techniques when joint replacement surgery becomes necessary. She supports the growing need for early detection and treatment of osteoporosis to maintain strong bones and prevent fractures.
